Hello friend! 🌞

Are you enjoying this summer weather? No, yes, maybe?? How are my articles so far? These times for me has been (loopy loop) a roller coaster ride. But still keep moving. The twists and turns call for learning something new.

I want to share how I made a book of this bookbinding technique.

I made a thought, ah, just a thought on how I would execute this. I also want, if possible to make a video tutorial. But on second thought maybe this article tutorial is much easier for now.

I had thought of this technique with an aim to make the book or in this case when I made the experiment a prototype and plans of binding a multi-page zine. In case you're wondering why it is called notepad bookbinding because it is what as it is said.

This book's feature is made to act like a notepad. So, you can take pages off easily to encourage crafting and creativity. Since it is a craft and lifestyle-esque multi-page zine.

I managed to figure out how to make this work. One night I was writing my schedules it just popped in my head. Recalling I already have the tools at my disposal.

What Makes the Binding?

A glue substance. Acid-free for structure. I did it like I would be making a notepad and cover the raw edge of the spine.

Materials Needed:

Book press

Printed pages of lined papers

Printed cover

Spine cover

Paper cutter (industrial or personal cutter-guillotine)

Book binding or note pad glue (for the spine)

PVC glue (to cover raw edge of the spine with decorative spine cover)

Instructions:

  1. Print out your pages for each sequence. If printing of both sides make sure it is properly formatted to the order in which it is in.

  2. Print the spine cover.

  3. Cut the paper leaves in half from the paper size your using. Maintaining the order of each pages. Stack them correctly.

  4. Cut the spine cover to size.

  5. Mount the stack of papers on the book press. making sure it is best at its straight edges. Leaving a 1/8" of lip overflowing from the edges of the spine.

  6. Put book binding glue on the edge of the spine like you would applying glue to a notepad.

  7. Let it dry. Before you unmount the papers.

  8. When dry to the touch apply PVC glue to the spine and match the spine cover attaching snug on the spine.

You are done!

This is the removable pages like notepads. As I said earlier to make use of the pages for journaling and if you are making a notebook if someone asks a piece of paper you can lend them a page.
